Updates and other random Rush stuff January 4, 2008

Happy New Year everyone! It stands to be another great year for Rush and its fans. Within the next 2 weeks we should be getting the official announcement of the 2008 tour dates, venues and ticket information. In the meantime I expect to get a bit more advance info regarding venues and dates. And I actually already have a few venue updates to report; Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids is out, Joe Louis Arena in Detroit is in, and the Idaho Center in Boise, Idaho is another Pending date (thanks Brian B). I’ve updated the current venue list and should have a post up in the next few days with a few more updates. And for all my South American readers - I have it on good authority that the South American dates will happen, so there’s nothing to worry about on that front. I’m unsure what all the hubbub in the Chilean papers was about.

Alex Lifeson Guitarist Magazine video interview now online January 3, 2008

Several weeks ago I mentioned that the December 2007 issue of Guitarist magazine (issue #297) featured an interview with Alex Lifeson. The issue also included a backstage video of Alex talking about the tour and showing off all of his gear. Brendan1234 let me know that the video is now up on YouTube. I’ve included it below too.

Limelight to be available for Rock Band via download January 2, 2008

The Rock Band video game from Harmonix Music Systems released late last year to much fanfare. The game built on the success of its Guitar Hero predecessors, adding vocals and drums to the mix thus allowing players to create a virtual rock band. While the Guitar Hero 2 game included Rush”s YYZ, Rock Band includes the Rush classic Tom Sawyer along with dozens of other rock songs from the 60s on up through the present day. Harmonix has promised to release new songs for the game on a weekly basis and just announced that Rush”s Limelight will be available for download this week. Like the Tom Sawyer song included with the game, it will unfortunately be a cover version and not the original. The song is expected to hit the PlayStation Network sometime tomorrow. Thanks to showdonttell25 for the heads up.
