Rush 2008 Snakes & Arrows tour update January 15, 2008

Hopefully this will be my last post before the release of the official tour dates. Still no news on when that will occur though; it could be any minute now. I’ve shuffled and reorganized my list a bit, splitting out the Canadian and South American venues, which haven’t really changed much at all. Where the picture is the most fuzzy is with the US dates, especially in the East and Midwest. It appears that most of the US venues are shifting to favor the outdoor sheds. The St. Louis show looks like it will now take place at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre rather than the Scottrade Center. The Boston show has moved from TD Banknorth Garden to the Tweeter Center and/or . The Hershey, PA show will be at the Hersheypark Stadium Star Pavilion rather than the Giant Center.

Gibson announces Alex Lifeson ES-355 signature edition

Gibson Custom to Showcase Over 15 New Models at Winter NAMM 2008
Alex Lifeson has mentioned in some recent interviews that he’d be releasing a signature Gibson ES-355 guitar this year although there had been no official word from Gibson until just recently. Yesterday Gibson Custom announced that it will showcase over 15 models at its exhibit at Winter NAMM 2008 in Anaheim, CA this coming weekend including the Alex Lifeson ES-355 VOS:

Rush 2008 tour date announcement open thread January 13, 2008

Assuming our intel is correct, Rush will be announcing the official list of dates for the 2008 leg of the Snakes & Arrows tour tomorrow. If they go about it like they did for the 2007 leg, they’ll be posting the dates to Rush.com shortly after midnight. So while we stand vigil I thought I’d recap what we know so far (or think we know at least).

Tomorrow we should get the official tour date announcement along with a possible new live single of Workin’ Them Angels. There are also rumors of the release of a live CD and/or DVD - presumably of the Rotterdam shows.

Updates and other random Rush stuff

I thought I’d go ahead and get my Updates and other random Rush stuff post out of the way before all hell breaks loose tomorrow. Rather than recap the tour information here, I’ll be putting up a separate post later today. If you need to catch up on all the latest tour information check out this post.

RicoRoq has updated his Google Map of the ‘08 tour leg, indicating likely and pending venues.

Rush 2008 Snakes & Arrows tour dates update January 10, 2008

I’ve received a few more updates so I thought I’d put up a fresh post. My sources are also telling me that the official tour dates should be released via Rush.com this coming Monday, January 14th with the first round of tickets going on sale Saturday, January 26th. There’s bound to be a fan pre-sale too although I haven’t heard any details yet. For the first leg, dates were announced on a Monday and the pre-sale began the next day, with regular tickets on sale the following Saturday. It sounds like maybe they’ll give us a little breathing room first this time between the announcement and when tickets go on sale. We’ll see.

Conan O’Brien Rush sighting

Last night’s (January 9th) episode of Late Night with Conan O’Brien contained a pretty significant Rush reference. In one taped skit Conan interviews his associate producer Jordan Slansky. Here’s a paraphrased transcript of the interview courtesy reader krlowe:

CONAN: Who’s your favorite rock band?

JORDAN: I would have to say Rush.

CONAN: Okay Rush … What’s one of their biggest songs?

JORDAN: Probably Tom Sawyer.

Rush Bobbleheads back on sale at Rush Backstage Club January 9, 2008

I’ve received several emails over the last few days regarding the fact that the Rush Backstage Club has brought back the Rush Bobblehead Dolls due to popular demand. These bobblehead dolls were made famous back on the R30 tour when they were featured in the intermission video Darn That Dragon (watch it here). The Rush Backstage Club had them for sale for a while but eventually discontinued the item much to the chagrin of fans. They were in such high demand that some were going for several hundred dollars on eBay. Well, they’re now available once again for the low price of $59.99. Here’s the description from the site:

Permanent Waves Ultradisc update

Yesterday marked the official release of the Permanent Waves Ultradisc II 24 KT Gold CD by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs (MoFi), although it had already been shipping from MoFi since mid-December. It can now be purchased through other vendors such as Amazon. This numbered, limited-edition CD is packaged in a heavy stock cardboard gatefold replicating the original vinyl album packaging. The disc itself is in a soft cloth sleeve which slips into the gatefold along with the CD booklet and a MoFi technical data sheet. Reports from readers who have purchased the CD say the sound quality is outstanding but reactions regarding the packaging are mixed. MoFi”s 180g Vinyl LP version of the album is also now available with pre-ordered copies having already shipped.

Rush 2008 Snakes & Arrows tour dates update January 7, 2008

My old post with my original list of venues and dates for the 2008 leg of the Snakes & Arrows tour is getting a bit convoluted with updates. So I thought it was high time I put up an updated post, reorganize things a little and highlight some of the more recent updates.

In the past week we learned that Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids is off the list to be replaced by Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. This show is now set to take place on June 10th. We also learned that the band has put a hold on the Idaho Center in Boise, Idaho. In addition, a date has been set for the Monterrey, Mexico show for April 30. I’ve also been assured that the South American dates will happen, so there’s nothing to worry about on that front. I’m unsure why those Chilean papers reported that the dates were in question.

Trailer Park Boys movie to be released in the US January 5, 2008

In October of 2006 the popular Candian TV show the Trailer Park Boys made its big screen debut in Canada. The movie was a resounding success garnering the highest opening-weekend gross of any English-language homegrown film. Alex Lifeson was heavily involved in the making of the film”s soundtrack (Geddy Lee also participated) and also got a cameo as a cop in the movie. The film is also riddled with Rush references including a movie marquee which lists several Rush song titles as movies. In December 2006 the news came out that Myriad Pictures of Los Angeles had purchased U.S. and world rights (excluding Canada) for the movie and planned to put the film into commercial release last year. This obviously failed to materialize but it now looks like there is finally some movement on this front. There”s an official website up touting the release of the film to US theaters this coming January 25th. No details as to theaters or showtimes yet though. Thanks to Joe P for the heads up.
