Pictures of Alex Lifeson and Rik Emmett from summer guitar workshop
Guitar Workshop Plus Photo Highlights 2006 - Rik Emmett and Alex Lifeson
Back in March I reported how Alex Lifeson would be appearing at Guitar Workshop Plus this past July. Guitar Workshop Plus is a Toronto-based musicians workshop which offers several courses for guitar, bass, keyboard, drums and vocals over 3 summer sessions. Lerxst teamed up with former Triumph guitarist Rik Emmett for Session 1 and the pair had a blast. The Guitar Workshop Plus website now has a bunch of pics of Rik and Lerxst up from the 2006 workshop. You can check out all the pics here. Many thanks to Kurt from Toronto, who attended the workshop, for the heads up.

New live video: Anthem from 1976 bootleg “Caught in the Act” November 18, 2006
Anthem 1976 live bootleg
A couple weeks ago I pointed out a video I’d found on YouTube of a live clip of Rush performing Bastille Day back in 1976. The clip was from an All the World’s a Stage tour bootleg video filmed on December 10th at the Capitol Theater in Passaic, NJ called “Caught in the Act”. Well, I’ve found another video on YouTube from the same show. It’s Anthem and you can check it out here.

Sebastian Bach covering Closer to the Heart on tour
As you may know, Guns and Roses (what’s left of them) recently embarked on their first tour in over a decade. Opening for them is former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach. Sebastian Bach is a big Rush fan and has performed covers of the band’s songs on various tribute albums. Apparently he’s been covering Closer to the Heart on this most recent tour. There were also guest appearances from some notable friends of Alex Lifeson. Lynn Saxberg of the Ottawa Citizen had this to say in his review of last night’s show at Ottawa’s Scotiabank Place:

Aarrgghh! … and the pirates shall pillage the Earth November 17, 2006
The Jolly Garogers are an Austin-based novelty band of … pirates. They’ve been terrorizing the Austin music scene since stumbling into the Bermuda Triangle back in 1675 where they were time-warped into the year 2001. They’ve recently recorded a tribute song to Rush entitled Pirates of Syrinx. It features guest lead vocalist Jason McMaster of Dangerous Toys. McMaster also sang vocals with Mike Portnoy for his Cygnus and the Sea Monsters Rush tribute side project. You can check out the song on their MySpace page.

Tom Sawyer included on Dwight Schrute’s iTunes playlist
One of my current favorite TV shows is NBC’s The Office. And probably my favorite character on the show is the quirky salesman Dwight Schrute (played by actor Rainn Wilson). Back in March Apple’s iTunes store highlighted the playlists of some of the characters on the show, included Dwight - and it seems that he and quarterback Tom Brady have something in common. Track #6 on Dwight’s list of Twelve Songs that Inspire and Motivate Me is Rush’s Tom Sawyer. Here’s his comment:

Rush at Red Rocks bootleg clips November 16, 2006
I found a few very short (unfortunately) bootleg clips of Rush’s show at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado from the R30 tour. Neil Peart declared this one of the “magical” shows from the tour in his book Roadshow and he used a picture from this show for the cover of the book. You can check out the bootleg clips at the links below.

Rush sighting in NBC TV show Studio 60 November 15, 2006
Studio 60 is a new TV show on NBC which takes place behind the scenes of a fictional live sketch comedy show. This weeks episode which aired Monday night (episode number 8 - “Nevada Day Part II”) contains a Rush sighting right at the end. The character Simon Stiles enters the dressing room of another cast member and a Neil Peart Paragon cymbal poster is seen hanging on the door. It’s a little blurry and hard to spot though since it’s seen through his dressing room mirror (so it’s also a mirror image). Thanks to Rush Forum member drumstruck for spotting this.
