Rik Emmett reports on guitar workshop with Alex Lifeson

This past July, Alex Lifeson was a participant in GuitarWorkshop Plus; a Toronto-based musicians workshop which offers several courses for guitar, bass, keyboard, drums and vocals over 3 summer sessions. Also at the workshop was fellow Canadian musician and founding member of Triumph, Rik Emmett. Power Windows just reported that Emmett published a Q&A about his time spent with Alex Lifeson at the workshop in his September Network Newsletter:

Reminder: Neil Peart interview on Sirius satellite radio today

Last week I reported that Neil Peart will be interviewed by Mark Goodman on Sirius Satellite Classic Rewind, Channel 15 today at 12PM EST. If you don’t have Sirius, you can go to the website and signup for a free 3-day online trial. It’s easy, I just did it and I’m listening to the program right now. I should be able to record it (fingers crossed), but I’m not giving any guarantees and I’m unsure when I’ll have it up online.

Rush in OZ September 17, 2006

I first became aware of an online petition effort to get Rush to finally tour Australia (they never have) a few months ago and had meant to post about it but just haven’t gotten around to it. Then a persistent Aussie fan (and sci-fi author), Neil Cladingboel, contacted me and got me thinking about the petition again. To assist the effort he decided to put together a portal site specifically dedicated to the effort to get Rush to tour Australia. I thought it was a very clever and nicely done site and so decided to feature it here. It’s called Rush in OZ. Neil will even send you an ebook copy of his first novel if you sign the petition; yes, a clever marketing ploy but also generous of him. :)

Rush reference in Artie Lange’s Beer League movie

Artie Lange is a tv and movie actor, stand up comedian, radio personality and Rush fan best known for being one of the original cast of MADtv and for taking over for Jackie Martling on The Howard Stern Show, where he often makes mention of Rush. His new movie Beer League was just released and contains a Rush reference. Here’s the report from Counterparts member Buttmanos who recently saw the movie:

Neil Peart sighting at Dalai Lama appearance September 16, 2006

This past week, the Dalai Lama made a visit to Pasadena, California and, according to a fan who emailed me, Neil Peart was there. I have no reason to doubt this fan (on the contrary - his story makes complete sense to me, and I believe it), but I’ll have to file this as “rumor” until I can find any cooborating evidence. This fan’s son, a buddhist, attended the event and reported seeing both Neil Peart and his wife, Carrie Nuttall there. Here’s his report:

Complete Neil Peart Billboard interview now online September 15, 2006

Rush Drummer Peart Chronicles Life On The ‘Road’
Earlier this week, Billboard.com released snippets of an interview they conducted with Neil Peart. The entire interview is now online. The interview is mostly about Neil’s traveling and his soon-to-be-released 4th book Roadshow; and how it all relates to Rush. No real “new” information - but a lot of interesting insight and commentary from Neil as usual. Neil’s book will be released on September 25th and you can preorder it here. Selected excertps from the book can also be read on Neil Peart’s website here.

Rush Neil Peart on MySpace update September 14, 2006

Neil Peart on MySpace
I’ve known about this for a few days now but just got around to posting about it; too much other Rush news going on. About a month ago several Rush fans noticed that Neil Peart was linking to a Rush MySpace page off of his NeilPeart.net links page. Since he linked to it we all assumed it was legit - and it was as it turns out. But … an Anthem representative said that it was not supposed to have gone live yet, that they hated the page, and they are revamping Rush.com and will adapt the myspace page to match it. And the page is now defunct. Then sometime in the past week or so, NeilPeart.net starting linking to Neil’s own MySpace page here. Which, since Neil links to it, is also assumed to be legit. The page has an R30 background and is nicely laid out, with the ability to listen to three different Neil Peart recordings; Momo’s Dance Party, O’ Baterista and Cottontail. Cool. Neil has 493 friends. :)

Vote for … Chronicles?! … as DVD of the year ?!?

Classic Rock Magazine Classic Rock Awards
UK magazine Classic Rock has opened voting for its annual Class Rock Awards. Up for DVD of the year - listed as “The greatest rock DVD release of the last 12 months” - is Rush’s … Chronicles?!? I assume this is a screwup on their part and they meant to put R30 and/or Replay X 3. So, go vote for Chronicles I guess. I did. I also left a nasty comment. :)
