Geddy released September 26, 2006
Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtle, “Geddy”
It’s not what you’re thinking. No, Geddy wasn’t involved in an Alex-esque brawl with police in a Naples hotel. The Geddy referred to here is a turtle. What could be better for a slow Rush news day than a story about a turtle named Geddy? (Get it.. slow.. turtle.. )
Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtle, “Geddy”
… On Friday, September 8, 2006 the National Aquarium in Baltimore’s Marine Animal Rescue Program released a rehabilitated endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtle. The turtle stranded in June on Hooper’s Island in the Chesapeake Bay. It had ingested a recreational fishing rig and had a hook lodged deep in its esophagus. Aquarium veterinarians surgically removed the hook and the animal was rehabilitated in the Aquarium’s hospital pool. … The turtle, named Geddy, was released with a satellite tag affixed to its back that will transmit information about where it goes. The tag could track Geddy’s movements for up to several months until the adhesive fails and the tag falls off. The satellite tag was provided through the generous support of The Herbert Bearman Foundation, Inc., who also chose the name of the turtle.

I got nothin’ September 25, 2006
Nada. Not much going on in the world of Rush the last couple of days. The boys are hunkered down in a studio somewhere in the Toronto area working on pre-production for the new album. So take advantage of this lull and check out this video of toddler Holly rocking out to Bastille Day. Hopefully I’ll have more to report soon.

Details are now online at GuitarCenter.com regarding the commemorative drum kit and drum sticks. As was posted here last month, DW Drums has produced thirty limited edition R30 tourkits, replicas of the kit Peart used during the R30 tour complete with gold plated hardware and custom album logos. Although the kit will include all three snares and complete set of Paragon cymbals, it will not include the Roland V drums. Only 30 will be available, and although the suggested retail price will be $53,000, they will be available to order from Guitar Center for $30,000. The kits will not be available for order until on October 30th at 8am, and there will be no pre-orders. The R30 Drum Kit will be in Guitar Center’s October catalog, and will also be available on NeilPeart.net. In addition, Pro-Mark has produced limited edition R30 Neil Peart drum sticks to be available at Guitar Center and Musician’s Friend stores on October 1st. Two sets will be available: one will include sticks for Test For Echo, Grace Under Pressure, and Counterparts, while another will include sticks for Presto, Roll The Bones, and 2112. Each set will include a chance to win a copy of Roadshow or Anatomy of a Drum Solo. For more information on the sticks, visit neilpeartdrumsticks.com. - Sep. 22, 2006

Neil Peart’s new book Roadshow released September 20, 2006
It’s here; a little early too. Neil Peart’s 4th book, Roadshow: Landscape with Drums, A Concert Tour by Motorcycle, which chronicles his travels on the R30 tour, has been released. He’s been making the interview circuit to promote the book the last couple of weeks. He’s conducted interviews with Jim Ladd of KLOS, Billboard.com, Eddie Trunk for VH1 Classic, Mark Goodman for Sirius Satellite Classic Rewind and Maxim Radio on the Bower Show. In the interviews he’s spoken extensively about the book. Here’s the synopsis from the publisher:

Monday we got to listen to Neil Peart speak with Mark Goodman on Sirius Satellite Classic Rewind. He also recently did another interview for Sirius - this one on Maxim Radio (Sirius Channel 108) for the Bower Show. A transcript of the interview is posted at the Sirius website here. Rush featured on Wikipedia
A couple of readers (Al, xanadu2112) sent me this bit of news. The online encylopedia, Wikipedia, features an article every day and today’s feature is, you guessed it … Rush! I use Wikipedia extensively on this site - I find it’s probably the best reference resource on the web. Cool.
