Alex Lifeson to host Trailer Park Boys movie TV special September 30, 2006

If you’ve been following this site for the past month or so, you no doubt are aware that the Trailer Park Boys movie soundtrack will be released this Tuesday along with the Canadian theatrical release of the movie on Friday. Alex Lifeson was heavily involved in the soundtrack. He compiled a Canadian “supergroup” called The Big Dirty Band and produced as well as played on their version of the 60s hit I Fought the Law for the soundtrack. Geddy Lee also played on the song and both Alex and Geddy also appear in the video which was released a couple weeks ago. Alex also plays on Liquor and Whores as a member of Bubbles and the Shit Rockers - and The Spirit of Radio is included on the soundtrack as well. The movie also contains a cameo from Lerxst where he plays, very appropriately, a cop.

Roadshow: first impressions - a semi-review September 28, 2006

I went on motorcycle ride across Texas with Neil Peart last night. At least that’s what it felt like. I’m a few chapters into Neil’s new book Roadshow: Landscape With Drums and am thoroughly enjoying it. I can’t really call this a review yet since I’m only one third into it, but I’ll give my opinion so far; a semi-review if you will.

The quality of the writing is right in line with his other three books but one observation I’ve made so far is that it’s funny - I mean laugh-out-loud funny at times. If I had to describe Neil’s 4 books in one word I’d maybe use descriptive for The Masked Rider, inspirational for Ghost Rider, nostalgic for Traveling Music and, for Roadshow, funny or whimsical might work; at least from what I’ve read so far.

Alex Lifeson’s guitar doctor

Guitar Doctor
This little article on guitar repairer (is that a word?) John Warden makes mention of Alex Lifeson. Apparently Alex (and some other big names) has used this guy’s services:

Guitar Doctor
… Some of music’s biggest names, including rocker Bruce Springsteen, Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson and legendary classical musician Andres Segovia, have sent their instruments to Warden for adjustments or repairs. …
