[Soloing in the Shadow of Giants]
Last month”s (April 2006) Modern Drummer magazine was a special addition focusing on the drum solo and featured Neil Peart on the cover. Neil also penned an article for the issue entitled Soloing in the Shadow of Giants. The article was posted on the Modern Drummer site a couple of months ago (though as of this post, the link is not working). There”s also a full scan of the article now available on NeilPeart.net.

Power Windows is reporting that in a May 2006 interview with entertainment newspaper More Suger Geddy Lee stated the following regarding Rush’s upcoming album:
“With a bit of luck we will have an album out early in 2007 and then go out on the road maybe next spring if we are lucky. It’s a little too early to tell yet what direction the new material is taking, but Alex and I are just having a blast. We are getting songs written so we are getting there. We kind of record while we write and we would say that we will write and record for the duration of this year. You just never know where it is going to go. I think that’s what keeps it fun for us and I am glad that there are people out there that appreciate that.”

That’s a Rush
A few weeks ago I posted an interview with Toronto Blue Jays catcher Gregg Zaun where he talks about being a huge Rush fan. Geddy Lee happens to be a huge baseball fan and can often be spotted behind home plate at Blue Jays games. He was in attendance at a recent Jays game and made Zaun’s day. From this Toronto Sun article:…

The Counterparts messageboard is still down, but the administrator, Ken, has pointed the url to a temporary page which explains the current situation:
Most of you are wondering where the Counterparts Messageboard is. To make a long story short, our hosting company, managed.com, was purchased by WebHostPlus. WebHostPlus decided, without warning, to move all the servers to their location in New Jersey. (Managed.com was located in Freemont, Ca.)

Neil Peart Interview Live On Life with John Oakley
Continuing on the theme of old Neil Peart interviews, here’s another 1997 interview. If you liked the MuchMusic interview you’ll really like this one because it’s much longer; around 30 minutes total. It’s from a 1997 interview he did on the Canadian TV show hosted by John Oakley, Live on Life. Neil discusses his Burning for Buddy project, his book The Masked Rider, drumming and drummers in general, and takes calls from fans. This is a really great interview. Many, many thanks to RareRushReview over at YouTube for making this available. The interview is in four parts and you can watch it here.…

Neil Peart MuchMusic Interview from 1997
I just uploaded an old Neil Peart interview that I had lying around to YouTube. You can watch it here. It’s a MuchMusic interview from 1997, not long before he suffered the dual tragedies of his daughter being killed in a car accident and his wife dying of cancer. I think it’s one of the last live interviews that he’s given. Since then, he’s shunned the spotlight (more than usual) and let Geddy and Alex do all the interviewing. It’s a great interview and a little sad to watch in light of what happended to him shortly after.…
